SIEMENS has released the SCALANCE X308-2M industrial Ethernet switch which features IT functions in addition to industrial functions.
The Siemens SCALANCE X308-2M is part of the SIMATIC NET product range. According to Siemens, the SCALANCE X308-2M switch is modular, with a fan-less design, allowing it to be adapted to specific applications.
According to Siemens, the main application area of SCALANCE X308-2M is with plant builders and system integrators for the construction and coupling of system networks at control level.
The switch has two slots for Media Modules allowing for various types of fibre optic ports to be connected.
The new switch supports all firmware functions of the SCALANCE X-300 units, such as ring redundancy, standby function and Virtual Local Area Network, as well as Gigabit Ethernet on all ports.
Electric media modules can be connected to the switch via RJ45 connector cables. The optical modules are connected with cables using SC or BFOC connectors, or when using Small Form Factor Pluggable media modules, via cables with LC connectors.
