ABB Robotics has partnered with Okuma to develop a robot standard interface for Okuma’s machine tools.
The ABB-Okuma Interface (AOI) is said to provide operators with a single operating environment, saving production time and reducing the training required.
The AOI was developed under an Intelligent Numerical Control Program, a collaborative roundtable between 25 manufacturing companies. It consists of a graphical interface and extendable robot controller program libraries and configuration files.
The graphical interface allows the operator to start and stop the robot and move the robot into its home or service position. Graphical windows provide information about part data, robot events, input and output signal status, etc.
The programmer can create code for the robot’s interactions with various machines through the extendable robot controller program. According to the manufacturer, it eliminates complex programming.
A single control panel displays the status of both machine and robot, and a signal window allows the operator to track the communication between the robot, its peripherals and the machine tool. An event log keeps track of all events and acts as a diagnostic tool.
