COBHAM Technical Services is releasing a new version of its Vector Fields electromagnetic simulation software suited for designing rotating electrical machinery.
According to Cobham Technical Services, its Vector Fields software combines finite-element analysis virtual prototyping with a rapid front-end design tool, allowing users to create models of motors and generators quickly.
Cobham Technical Services says the latest version of Vector Fields software includes several new modelling elements including an embedded magnet design plus variants of a V-shape rotor magnet. The optional new hysteresis solver for soft magnetic materials caters for the hysteresis effects in the specialty electrical steels.
Cobham Technical Services says its software is a easy-to-use front-end for a powerful electromagnetic simulator. Users select the form of motor or generator they want to design, then enters a list of parameters to define mechanical geometry, material properties and electrical data. The software then automatically creates a model and performs post-processing.
The package comes with templates for a range of common rotating machinery including motor types such as AC induction, brushless, permanent magnet and switched reluctance, plus synchronous motors or generators.
