3D modelling firm acquires pipework detailing expertise

3D ENGINEERING, drafting and design company PDC Consultants has acquired a pipework detailing business.

According to the company, the acquisition of Piper Engineering will allow PDC to strengthen its piping expertise. This will be used to help Fortescue Metals design its Cloud Break Iron Ore Handling facility in Pilbara.

PDC uses 3D modelling technologies to create intelligent 3D models of projects. It has been used by clients such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Alcoa, Newcrest and Woodside.

The consultancy firm claims its models allow clients to minimise construction errors and achieve zero rework.

Piper specialised in pipework detail, design and drafting. This knowledge will be integrated into PDC’s expertise in heavy mechanical equipment, conveyors and structures. The enhanced pipe knowledge will allow the company to service the lucrative oil and gas industry.
